Thinking in Systems by Donella MeadowsThinking In Systems: A Primer by Donella H. Meadows (2008) has been on my to-read list for a long time. I finally decided to start reading it while traveling, and I am not disappointed. I know it’s popular for people to say they are “systems thinkers,” which I think often means “I try to think about how the different parts of the system in which I work fit together.” But there is a whole body of knowledge about system dynamics, a whole way of thinking about how feedback loops affect connections of stocks and flows, and so far, I’m really enjoying how accessible Meadows is making her introduction.

Preparing for the medium-term impact of AI on data engineering and analytics

We keep hearing hype around how AI will change our world. Hype cycle aside, for a coder exploring current LLM capabilities, it’s easy to see specific ways in which LLMs are gaining capabilities that overlap with what we do in our work. It’s not hard to imagine that these capabilities will mature to make a real difference in our day-to-day.
